The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is a hard event to explain. Yes, in short its a public road that is closed down and people race up it, but its so much more. The emotions, the engineering advances, mother nature doing whatever the fuck she wants, and most of all the drivers and riders that risk everything to be the fastest. Unfortunately, the mountain took another life this year, Carl Sorensen. My heart goes out to his family and friends for his untimely death.
For people that do not know, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the 2nd oldest Motorsports event in North America. The section of road used is 12.42 miles long climbing 4,720 ft with over 156 turns ending at 14,110 ft above sea level.
